El pasado día viernes 7 de diciembre Oceanosanos fue recibido por las autoridades Navales
del Puerto de Montevideo. En medio de una entrevista informal fuimos gratamente
informados que se han fortalecido y puesto en marcha medidas en relación a la lucha
contra la Pesca Ilegal, No Declarada y No Reglamentada (INDNR).

En este sentido nos comunicaron el aumento de los controles y de que el sistema de
identificación satelital AIS ya es una obligación inviolable dentro del Puerto de Montevideo.
Desde que se inició Oceanosanos hemos intentado colaborar de forma constructiva con las
autoridades en la búsqueda de mejorar los controles y de que se establezcan inspecciones
a bordo para todas las embarcaciones pesqueras extranjeras, y que las mismas sean
pagadas por los armadores, no por la sociedad uruguaya.

Por un lado, para lograr que exista una completa y verificable trazabilidad de las descargas
pesqueras, y por otro, para asegurar que las condiciones de vida y laborales a bordo de los
barcos respetan las normas internacionales laborales y de Derechos Humanos.

La correcta utilización del sistema AIS es obligatoria de acuerdo a las reglamentaciones
internacionales, y debería ser una condición para operar en el puerto que las
embarcaciones pesqueras extranjeras lo tuviesen funcionando permanentemente durante,
al menos, los seis meses previos al ingreso a puerto. De no cumplirse esta medida, junto a
otras, es imposible verificar el origen de la carga.

Desde Oceanosanos reconocemos los esfuerzos del Gobierno, y continuaremos trabajando
hasta que todas las embarcaciones pesqueras extranjeras cumplan con las mínimas
condiciones ambientales, sanitarias y laborales que las normas nacionales e internacionales
requieren. La imagen del país ha sido perjudicada por ser objeto del pasaje de pesca
sospechada de origen INDNR, estas acciones son un excelente paso para mejorar la
calificación.

Encouraging announcements from the Port of Montevideo

On Friday, December 7th, Oceanosanos was greeted by the Naval authorities of the Port of
Montevideo. During an informal interview, we were pleasantly informed that measures
have been strengthened and put into effect in relation to the fight against Illegal,
Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU).

In this regard, we were informed about the increase in controls and that the AIS satellite
identification system is an inviolable obligation within the Port of Montevideo.
Since Oceanosanos’ conception, we have strived to collaborate constructively with the
authorities in search of improving controls and establishing on-board inspections for all
foreign fishing vessels, and for these to be paid by the shipowners, and not by the
Uruguayan society.

This is important, on one hand, to achieve a complete and verifiable traceability of fishing
unloading, and on the other hand, to ensure that living and working conditions on board
respect international labor standards and Human Rights.

The correct use of the AIS system is mandatory according to the international regulations,
and it should be required for these foreign fishing vessels to have this system operating
permanently during the six months previous to the entrance to port. If this measure is not
met, together with others, it is impossible to verify the origin of the cargo.

Oceanosanos recognizes the efforts of the Government, and we will continue working until
all foreign fishing vessels comply with the minimum environmental, health and labor
conditions that are required according to the national and international standards. The
image of the country has been damaged by serving as the passageway to suspected IUU
fishing. Therefore, these actions are an excellent step to improve Uruguay’s qualification.
